Colorado River Access Detail, Altair Boat Ramp

Updated: Mar 5, 2023

The Altair Boat Ramp is an access to the Colorado River provided for by the LCRA. With the new U.S. Highway 90 Alternate Bridge (2022) came a new and improved boat ramp. This bridge is not to be confused with the U.S. 90 / Walnut Street Bridge 20 miles upstream in Columbus.

As can be seen above and below the entire access is paved. There is generous parking under the bridge. This is a class 1 access.

You can have any truck, in any color, old or new...just as long as it's domestic!

There are no public bathrooms, picnic tables or grills at this access. This nearest convenience store is about three miles away, to the east at the highway 71 and Alternate 90 intersection. Eagle Lake is but a little further off, and to the west.

This river access is on the south east corner of the bridge.

Upstream the nearest access is at Beason's Park on the Colorado in Columbus, Texas. That access is a class 1.

The next downstream river access is 13 river miles down, at the 950 Garwood Bridge. That access is a class 3.

For explanation of river accesses ratings please read the articles Classification of Water Accesses and Scouting River Bridges & Accesses.

There are several considerable river obstacles to overcome in those thirteen miles.

For details on other river accesses please see the bottom of the article Classifications of Water Accesses.

Thanks for reading!

Bonus pictures below are of the old Altair Boat Ramp. Enjoy.

Landing a canoe doesn't get much easier than this.

There is plenty of room to stage vehicles and gear.
