The Outdoor Edge Ignitro is an interesting and practical approach to a camp knife.
These folding knives feature a line locker, a 2.3" stainless steel blade, a whistle, some fire chord tinder and a striker plate and ferro rod. Mine came shaving sharp.
This knife is a nice addition to any camping dry box, backpack or pocket. With a little practice this assembly can be used to ignite tinder.
There are a number of sources of tinder. Dryer lint ignites easily, and I have made char cloth and been successful. My favorite tinder are things I am able to gather directly from nature. It is always satisfying when I ignite some crumbled grass or cedar bark. Spend the time to lay out the fire material and a stable fire is your reward.
The grass pictured above is common and easily gathered in the coastal region of Texas. The Ignitro lights it well. There are other sources of tinder. There is no shortage of matches, cigarette lighters and fire staring fuels. These things work well, but a little practice and application of skills with the Ignitro rewards the user with a primitively started fire. The bonus of eating something off a primitively light fire is highly satisfying!
